The Catalina Film Institute Grant was created to help get artists’ and/or filmmakers’ IMAGINATIONs to a DESTINATION.  Filmmakers need partners to make ambitious and imaginative projects, so Catalina Film Institute chose to live up to its IMAGINATION – EDUCATION – DESTINATION motto and help put fuel into our filmmakers’ gas tanks. The application is a way to help us determine which artists are ready to take the journey. The information below will help clarify what we ask on the application, why we ask these questions, and how we evaluate the answers we receive.

Beginning in 2020, artists and/or filmmakers will submit one full application, from February 7th to March 31st, with a complete budget and any work samples to show how you’ve made past visions come to fruition on your own. This is a competitive process, and as artistic expression goes, no project is right or wrong for this grant application.

For CFI’s 10th Anniversary in 2020, we will grant 10 awards valued at $1000 to $20,000 to 10 proposed projects.   This award value could be monetary, non-monetary, or mixture of both based upon your application needs for a Short or Feature length project. As we decide how to best distribute those 10 awards, your project is eligible to receive an award valued no less than $1000, and up to $20,000, from Full-Access VIP Filmmaker Event Passes to attend industry workshops, talk with industry leaders, and network with your project at all our Catalina Film Festival events, private parties, and/or an invitation to pitch this project in front of our Lions’ Den® accredited financial investors, hands-on personal mentorship from our Hollywood professionals,  and/or up to $10,000 in monetary funds simply to help you complete your project and see your vision come to life. Our non-monetary awards inclusive of hands-on mentorships, pitch panels, industry workshops and VIP access to our annual film festival are valued up to $10,000, so if your project is granted the maximum $10,000 monetary award and the maximum non-monetary $10,000 value award, your total award could be valued at $20,000. We are open to supporting any creative film endeavor, but please look at our preferences below on the types of projects we’d like to support.  We do not have restrictions on what type of film project can apply (IE. Documentary, Scripted, Drama, Student, Comedy, Short, Feature, etc…), and it can be in any pre-production, production, or post-production phase(s) of development, and/or just looking for support with film festival submissions as a completed project. We are just interested in supporting great filmmakers and their visions.

The grant application for the Catalina Film Institute is open to all film artists in all disciplines February 7- March 31st, 2020. Projects we connect with will start to be evaluated and chosen for one of our 10 awards within and after the open submission time period (with all final decisions by May 1st, 2020), so don’t hesitate to submit!
