What Exactly Is A Film Society?

It’s for you, and you only! For your community of film enthusiasts to get together and enjoy, discuss, and celebrate film on a more regular basis than once a year at your island’s Santa Catalina Film Festival. Big and small communities all around the world have film societies, and now, so does Catalina Island! The Catalina Film Festival extends its nonprofit mission through the Catalina Film Society to not only celebrate and educate on the art of independent film, but also Catalina Island in all of its rich history, glory, and beauty. Continuing to benefit the efforts of the Catalina Island Conservancy, the film society will continue to grow by fostering independent filmmaking while also helping to elevate the film industry on the island. So not only are you a member of the film festival team, but on a monthly basis throughout the year you’ll go to free screenings, panels, and events held on Avalon for all Film Society Members to attend.
